I really enjoyed this one from Stephen King. I am not too sure about the “hard case crime” thing, but the story was very good and I was well over half way thru before I knew it and finished it the very next day (which is saying something for me because I am a pretty slow reader).

The story revolves around a 21 year old named Devin who takes a job at a third tier amusement park. Along the way he meets some interesting people, tries to mend a broken heart, saves a life or two and becomes involved in a murder mystery.

This story is rather subtle and subdued, but King’s excellent descriptive narrative and his depth of character truly make you feel like you are in the world of carnies and rubes. 4 Stars
