This is the fictional account of the failed Franklin expedition of 1845. The historical aspect of this novel was absolutely captivating. You almost get frostbite just reading about the cold and dank weather the characters found themselves stuck in. As if being stuck in Arctic on a ship in the middle of a frozen wasteland wasn’t bad enough there is something out there - eating the crew one by one and possibly infecting them in some way as well.

This novel is a fantastic historical thriller/horror fiction piece with supernatural and sci-fi elements. Even though the length of this novel may be daunting at first, don’t let that deter you from giving this one a go. Simmons prose and intriguing characters will hold your attention and will get you frantically turning pages to see what will happen next. Excellent. Highly Recommended.
